Combining moral education with the development of students' willpower, pursuing both knowledge and virtue.

Combining moral education with the development of students' willpower, pursuing both knowledge and virtue. The Chinese name for Wycombe Abbey 'Wei Ya' brings together the notions of "Wei" and "Ya", power and elegance. 'Wei' means great power and reflects the hope that our pupils will develop both great ambition and willpower as well as the courage to face future challenges, so that they can fully explore their individual potential in pursuit of excellence; "Ya" means the elegance exhibited by "learned and virtuous scholars" in ancient Chinese literature. We expect our pupils to become well-rounded individuals with great learning and good conduct. We also hope they will take on the responsibility of changing the world for the better and benefiting the whole of society while pursuing their own personal goals.

In short, the full significance of Wycombe Abbey's Chinese name "Weiya" is closely aligned with Confucius' belief that "a noble person should not just be a tool used by other people". We aim to help and encourage our pupils to become high-minded individuals who are not satisfied with just mastering a single skill or blindly seeking material gain, but rather people who pay equal attention to knowledge and action, who are open-minded and inclusive and determined life-long learners. We believe that it is only pupils who have strong personal integrity, who learn about the world from a global perspective and who care about the lives of others who will be able to shoulder the responsibilities of self-improvement, raising a family successfully and contributing to national development, and who will thereby help to make the world a better place.

More specifically, in the face of a highly uncertain and precarious world, we strive to ensure that our pupils become:

Active and Independent Learners

Honest and Exemplary Leaders

Brave and Resolute Explorers

Active and Independent Learners
We hope that our pupils will deal with the challenges they face in their studies and in their lives with perseverance, courage, self-discipline and self-motivation. They will neither be afraid of challenges nor failure. They will fully devote themselves to their interests through lifelong learning, laying solid foundations for further studies, career development and, ultimately, a happy and meaningful life through the application of their knowledge and skills.
Honest and Exemplary Leaders
We aim to ensure that our pupils develop all the qualities they need for their future lives, learning to be cooperative, innovative, curious and adventurous, with excellent skills of communication, leadership and critical thinking. In an increasingly globalized world, we hope that our pupils will show confidence and pride in their national culture and identity and be able to contribute effectively to cross-cultural communication, understanding and collaboration.
Brave and Resolute Explorers
We hope that our pupils will grasp every opportunity in life and make the most of their individual potential. They will never rest on their laurels but rather continue to strive to learn more about the world and embrace the future. They will be compassionate towards others, their community and society as a whole, and grow up with the ambition to make the world a better place. They will become "architects of the future", with their sense of compassion, their capacity for innovation and problem-solving and their strong social responsibility, determined to initiate and lead future social changes.

It is with this educational ambition that the Wycombe Abbey Education Group is committed to promoting Chinese culture, combining the best of Chinese and international education so as to meet the needs of both Chinese and foreign families for modern, multi-faceted and innovative education.
